Drama Club (Mixed)

Drama is developed in Clementi Town Secondary School in line with our vision to achieve the ‘5Es’ of Arts Education – Exposure, Experience, Experiment, Evaluate, Educate. For the students who choose Drama as CCA, they are put through training in three areas – Cast, Crew and Creatives.

For Cast work, the students undergo training in acting are honed in their skills of voice projection, stage presence and characterization. For Crew work, students are trained to run an event, and do stage managing of a big production. They are also trained in make-up for stage, and the managing of sound and lighting of a show. Besides that, students are encouraged to write scripts and have opportunities to choreograph dances for the shows that we put up, outside of school.

In Clementi Town, the Drama Club helms the production of the biennial school musical, while it is open to the rest of the school for participation. The CT Musical journey began in 2009, and we are staging our 6th musical in 2018 at University Cultural Centre. The ground-up production sees the devotion of both alumni and current students, and has progressed from being staged in the school hall to being performed in Victoria Theatre in 2016. This is because the school believes in providing our students with quality and authentic performing experience. This is also evident with the 25-person teacher team behind each production. The production is a six-month long preparation for the eventual show in June, and aims to always teach students strong lessons of empathy, respect and love, and reinforce the school values of adaptability and self-discipline.

Our most recent production was What Would I Give, our fifth musical, put up in Victoria Theatre on 3 June 2016. The story speaks of a young girl, Ampun, who travels into the past to 1950s Singapore with her best friend, to find out why her beloved Grandma had lost her ability to speak, especially since she was known to be the Nightingale of Pagoda Street. Students had gone on heritage learning journeys to Chinatown to learn more about Singapore’s history in the process. In this performance, eight teachers and even our Vice-Principal had joined in the performance as cast.
